Situated in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, Hubei Province (E for short) is considered the geographical centre of China. The eastern two-thirds of the region consist of the fertile low-lying plains of Jianghan, while the western third is rugged mountains and hills. In the Spring and Autumn (722-481BC) and Warring States (453-221BC) periods, the region was governed by the Chu State. With 800 years of Chu history present, Hubei has played an important part in Chinese culture and a huge number of historical relics remain. The Yellow Crane Tower in Wuhan is one of the finest pavilions in China. Wudangshan is a sacred Taoist mountain with hundreds of temples and palaces. Hubei also boasts impressive natural scenery. The Three Gorges offers an unmatched stretch of water and mountains and Shennongjia is a virgin forest-covered mountain where China's Yeti is reported to live. |

With the development of the Yangtze Valley, Wuhan is becoming increasingly important both in domestic and international terms, specifically as an important education and scientific research base, due largely to the sizeable university and student population here and local governmental efforts to promote this as a premier business and commercial destination.. ...... |
