Anhui is an area whose frequent rains lead to frequent flooding and whose frequent flooding often leads to large scale poverty. Despite its location in the east of China, with such economically booming cousins as Shanghai and Jiangsu nearby, this large province does not emulate these nearby powerhouses. Things have almost always been like this, straddled as the province is by the aggressive Yellow River, that restricts movement and wreaks havoc after heavy rain. |

Huangshan| Huangshan ( Yellow Mountain ) is the name of the 72 peak range lying in the south of Anhui Province , 280km west of the coastal city of Hangzhou. For the Chinese, Huangshan, along with Guilin, is probably the most famous landscape attraction in the country-a local tourist map declares solemnly that it is the 'marvellousest mountain on earth'..... ...... |

| Jiuhuashan| Jiuhuashan is one of China's four sacred Buddhist mountains (the others are Putuoshan in Zhejiang, Emei-shan in Sichuan and wutaishan in Shanxi). Third century Taoist monks built thatched temple at Jiuhuashan,but with the rise of Buddhism these were gradually replaced by stone monasteries. Jiuhuashan owes its importan-ce to a Korean Buddhist disciple,Kim Kiao Kak (jin qiaojue),who arrived in 720 and founded a worshipping place for Ksitigarbha, the guardian of the earth.Annual festivities are held on the anniversary of Kim's death (the 30th day of the 7th lunar month), when pilgrims flock to Jiuhuashan....... |
